Continuing Education Credits (CECs) are awarded to fitness industry education programs and events that are aligned to the Scope of Practice for AusREPs.
The number of CECs allocated to an education program or event depends on the quality of the education being delivered; the duration of the program or event and whether it includes an assessment of participant knowledge and skill gained.
Registered exercise professionals are required to obtain a minimum of twenty (20) CECs over a two year term to renew professional registration. You can find Approved CEC programs and events here.
Continuing Education Credits (CECs) no longer apply to professional practice beyond March 31st 2016.
As part of our enhancement of the Exercise Professional Registration System, feedback from across the industry indicated a need for greater depth of assessed knowledge and learning among registered exercise professionals to ensure quality and credibility. As a result, continuing education credits now apply only to participation in education. This might include approved courses listed at the CEC directory or a range of other eligible education methods.
Currency of practice is still an important principle of exercise professional registration. As a AusREP, you will be required to keep your Professional Practice Status up-to-date, so that it is clear which of your registration categories you are practicing in at any given time.
CECs can only be obtained from a Fitness Australia approved programs, events or activities - Find CECs here. All approved face-to-face programs are delivered in Australia; however there are online programs available from international education providers.
If an Exercise Professional is overseas and looking to maintain their CECs, they can participate in approved CEC programs offered online or via correspondence. Find an Approved CEC Program.
An Australian First Aid certificate is valid for 3 years and CPR is valid for 12 months.
Both First Aid and CPR certificates must be current at all times in order for your Exercise Professional Registration with Fitness Australia to remain valid. Note: your insurance may also be invalid if your first aid or CPR certificates expire.
