Registered exercise professionals are required to obtain a minimum of twenty (20) CECs over a two year term to renew professional registration.

To become an approved CEC Provider with Fitness Australia, your program or event must:
Approved programs or events address any of the accepted activities that fall within the professional scope and boundaries of Registered Personal Trainers, Gym Instructors, Group Exercise Instructors or Group Exercise Leaders, as described in Section 6 of the Scope of Practice for AusREPs position statement. They should also support:

Fitness Australia offer AusREPs (REPs) the opportunity to attain CECs from approved programs through a broad range of areas. The knowledge and skills involved in running a successful business are consistently sought after by REPs due to the nature of industry and the high proportion of sole trading businesses.
The business development knowledge and skills obtained through approved CEC programs build on the existing VET qualification business units of competency that have been determined by the industry as necessary core knowledge and skills.
It is important to note that whilst registrants can obtain CECs through business based programs, the majority (>90%) of our approved CEC programs build on the specific knowledge and skills of exercise delivery.

Please note that incomplete applications or programs that need significant alterations may extend the approval timeframe.
Program presenters are required to have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience relevant to the knowledge/skill area they are presenting. Their qualifications must reflect a level of education of at least the same level or higher than the level of education being delivered in the program/event.
For example, a presenter with a Certificate IV would be expected to be presenting content at the level of Gym Instructors (Certificate III) or Personal Trainers (Certificate IV). They would not normally be considered sufficiently qualified to present t content at the level of Diploma qualified Personal Trainers. Certified copies of their qualifications relevant to the CEC application must be submitted.
Detailed, specific and accurate CVs must be submitted for all presenters. Certified copies of presenter qualifications must be included.
Program assessors must hold a Certificate IV Training & Assessment (equivalent qualification & experience will be considered on a case by case basis) as well as relevant qualifications to the area they are assessing. Additionally, assessors are required to have a minimum of five (5) years’ experience relevant to the knowledge/skill area they are presenting.
Detailed, specific and accurate CVs must be submitted for all presenters. Certified copies of presenter qualifications must be included.
Note: the assessor does not have to be the same person as the presenter. If an online assessment is being provided it must be developed by an assessor that is qualified as stipulated above.
